Application of Drifted Pumice Stone as a Sand-Capping Material

چکیده
Large amounts of pumice stone generated by the submarine volcanic eruption at Fukutoku Okanoba on 13 August 2021 drifted ashore, affecting ship navigation and fishery operations posing challenges for disposal a risk to benthic sea-life. As new approach managing ejected from eruptions, we investigated possibility using as sand-capping material eutrophic sediments through laboratory experiments. Crushed sand cover effectively reduced sedimentary oxygen consumption rate. Nutrient release sediment showed similar trend, with ~25% 82% reductions in NH4-N PO4-P rates, respectively. Furthermore, bivalve exposure experiments crushed suspended seawater no adverse effects specific lowered mortality greater extent than did kaolin same concentration. This could be related differences gill accumulation blockage owing particle size variation particles. These results suggest that is effective suitably suppresses nutrient sediments.

Removal of Acid Red 14 by Pumice Stone as a Low Cost Adsorbent: Kinetic and Equilibrium Study
In this work, removal of C. I. Acid Red 14 was investigated by Pumice stone as a low cost adsorbent. Various parameters such as initial dye solution, contact time and pH were studied. Removal of dye were increased by increasing of contact time and initial dye solution and deceased by increasing of pH. Three isotherm models were studied. Linear and non-linear regression analyses were used fo...
متن کاملDredged marine sand as construction material
Dredging works are usually required to maintenance activities in many ports all over the world and represents a huge volume of disposal material. The use of dredged aggregates can be considered in several applications as erosive process control, coastal stabilization, beach replenishment, production of construction materials (clay, bricks, aggregates) or construction works (foundation fill, dik...
متن کاملApplication of Response Surface Methodology for Removal of Remazol Yellow (RR) by Immobilised S. cerevisiae on Pumice Stone
In this study, Remazol Yellow (RR) removal was investigated by Saccharomyces cerevisiae immobilized on pumice stone. For the immobilization process, a new technic was used and immobilization matrix HCl pretreated pumice stone was added to the growth medium of microorganism. pH, initial biosorbent (Co), and dye concentration (Cb) effect on biosorption were optimized thr...
متن کاملKinetic study of heavy metal ions removal from aqueous solutions using activated pumice stone
Background: The presence of heavy metals in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems causes harmful effects to living organisms in the environment. This research aimed to determine the potential of activated pumice stone (APS) as a sorbent for the removal of Cd, Cu, and Zn from wastewater. Methods: This research was conducted during 2013 on a laboratory scale. The study was performed using batch exp...
